What part of castles do you think offers the most protection against enemies and why ?

I think that the moat offered the most protection.When the castle was under attack the draw bridge would be pulled up, swimming the moat would be the only way in. The moat was very deep and filled of toilet water.Enemies were easy targets in the water swimming and trying to climb the walls of the Castle
